Acronym for Internet Service Provider. ISP’s provide the localized network infrastructure that allows access to the Internet through telephone lines (modems) or digital data communications technologies like ADSL or DSL. Commercial ISP’s have a number of advantages, including fewer busy signals for dial up service & local access numbers in different parts of the U.S.
