Merchant Card Services
A third party company that arranges credit card acceptance and authorization for businesses. There are several varieties of merchant card services including real-time, non-real-time, Internet-based, physical/hardware-based, etc. Many of the newer services provide you with real-time credit card processing without the need to install software or hardware.
Hardware-based merchant card processing is only required if you have a physical store location where people will actually give you a physical credit card to authorize payment for products or services.
Note: There are a lot of shady companies out there selling unnecessary hardware and software programs to unsuspecting Internet business newbies. Don’t get caught in this trap.
