Run of network advertising is usually not targeted because your ad can appear on any content page in the network of sites. In most networks your ad won’t be relevant to the vast majority of users. However, there are niche or themed banner networks which have shown higher clickthrough rates as compared to traditional banner networks.

A main benefit of using a run of network option is for branding and or getting exposure to a large number of visitors.

The downside can be a poor conversion rate, i.e.an industry standard 1% or less clickthrough rate (CTR).
